Today Dr. Campbell led us in a short remembrance of 9/11. Of course, none of our students were alive on that tragic date in 2001 but their reaction today proves the character of our children.
I had prepared the children for the announcement by telling them how on this date in 2001 some bad men were responsible for the death of almost 3000 people in our country. When Dr. C announced the Moment of Silence, I stood. Head bowed. Obviously in deep reflection. One by one, almost our entire class came up and linked their arm around my waist or the next available child. Finally the moment passed and I raised my head to see almost every child linked together, arm-in-arm. Standing together as a united force, smiling up at me. Isn't America a great place to be?!!
