I have to tell you a funny - I have been sneezing a lot (typical for me) and one of the children asked me why I sneeze so much. In my typical fashion, I replied that I am allergic to first graders. Yesterday, I went to an ENT (for real) and was tested for allergies. They found out that I am NOT ALLERGIC TO ANYTHING. Wow. I told the children about my doctor's visit and then explained that I found out that I am not allergic to anything. One of the children raised their hand and said, "So, you aren't even allergic to first graders?" When I said no, the whole class cheered! Love them!!
The children were sooo excited when they arrived at school today in their dress-up outfits. Of course, they were adorable! They handled the extra clothing and fun well. After recess we really got dressed up with fake mustaches. Here are twenty-two reasons to say... Hilarious! Parents, thank you for your help in choosing great options for them to wear for our Reward Day! Other than Jozlynn's tiara breaking, we had a super-fun time. I think it is indicative of your children's character that they chose a Dress-Up Day as their reward rather than some tangible item. It makes my heart proud!

Fun assembly today to kick off our fall fundraiser. Thanks to Reggie Grigg and Stacy Nguyen!! Here is hoping we can raise enough money to cover the costs of some essentials cut from our supplies! Go OPES! Please consider supporting us! Writing Workshop is one of our favorite times of our day. We are working hard to remember how to develop and record a true story of something we have lived and done. Here we are, working hard! And on-task. This week we have learned how drilling down to a small moment allows us to write more deeply and thoroughly about a little, watermelon seed moment than writing about the WHOLE, round, large (big story) watermelon. Happy times. We had a jam-packed day! Book bags lining the hallway outside our door in anticipation of our year's beginning. Meeting new friends in iur holding area. Before we know it... Time for lunch! Then our favorite, recess! After recess working again! Today we had P.E. with Mr. K. We LOVE P.E.! It was a fun-filled day in First Grade! Happy 6th birthday to our friend, Nova!! Water day began with a scary forecast but the weather could not have been better for our fun outside. It was overcast and warm but not steamy or blazing hot as it has been the last couple of weeks. The children had so much fun. To borrow a phrase from several books written during Writer's Workshop... The children played and played and played!! We explained the rules to the children and had them all lined up. On your mark! Get set!!! Goooooo!!!! Let the fun begin. Water day is the best day EVER!!! Field Day was a fun time and we thank Mr. Karhu and all the parents who made it such a great day. We started on the games out behind the school. We enjoyed running around and screaming with our friends. Thanks to the sunny skies we warmed up quickly. Janiya let me know she was hot and thirsty! When it was time for the water games on the big blow-up toys we returned to our classroom to pick up our towels. We took off our shoes in a hurry! We did not want to miss any of our designated time... I was so busy watching the children enjoy themselves that I neglected taking pictures. I apologize for not fully documenting our fun in photos. We are hatching crazy here in D-116. Butterflies all hatched and we released them Thursday. Then three of our eggs hatched. Here is our first chick, Kendall, right after it hatched. Two more hatched after Kendall. We named them Peep and Chirper. Unfortunately Chirper came to an untimely end when it fell into the water dish. The children learned a lot about life cycles. Each of them can describe the life cycle of butterflies and chickens. This was a wonderful experience. We thank the Clemson Extension Agents for providing the incubators, eggs and materials for hatching and raising chicks. After a few publishing issues, here we are, singing a song for our favorite people, our moms! Enjoy! I hope you all have had a wonderful Mother's Day. I spent my weekend with my sister, Joyce, reminiscing about our mama. We are really missing her. This is one of my favorite pictures of her and how I remember her. Too many pictures to load at one time... John and Cole enjoy watching John's kite soar above their heads. Despite a few kites caught in trees we had an awesome time. We ended the day with Popsicles. Fun! Kite day was awesome. Just the right amount of wind. |
