We practice and use a LOT of Language Arts skills as we write our morning messages. Today, after much discussion, we decided to write about our pumpkin. We opened it last week on Halloween, scooped out the "guts" during center time and saved the seeds. We plan to plant these next Spring as we learn about Life Cycles. Since we could not bear to throw it out, our pumpkin now sits proudly beside the woods that edge our playground. We have a great view of it from our large, classroom window. We placed it there Tuesday and we observed some of the mold (bacteria?) already growing and beginning the process of returning to the earth.
We also thought we would write about more of the seasonal changes we have observed. As we were at the window checking on whether or not we could easily see our pumpkin, the wind began to blow and leaves were falling like crazy! The children compared the rapidity and quantity of leaves falling to that of a snow shower.
The children came up with an awesome story today! Here are photos of the children working and practicing as we wrote this morning ...
We had a great time reading with a partner today. The children are building great stamina in reading for sustained periods of time. Thanks to all the parents who helped your child review and practice their reading tub books they brought home yesterday! Please help the children remember to bring those books back the next day!
