Did your child arrive home today a little hyper? Well it is probably because the kids consumed about eight pounds of sugar this afternoon while we were making our gingerbread houses but... It was SO MUCH FUN!
We made cards for some soldiers stationed in Afghanistan. The children are excited to have a part in making their holidays brighter! Here are some of their cards. Merry Christmas to everyone (currently and formerly) in the armed service from our class! Our class elf, Belle, is quite the character. We never know where she will pop up when we return to our classroom! One day she was peering out of our treasure box! Today she ate candy and got into our air refresher! We received a special delivery today and it was a BIG surprise! We have a elf! We named her (yes it's a girl, complete with an adorable snowflake skirt) Belle. The other suggested names were Sarah, Kendall and Kira. Belle received 15 votes which was an overwhelming majority. Mrs. Fowler and I thought the name Belle was a very clever idea since it makes us think of jingle bells! Already Belle has surprised us. While we were at lunch she escaped her box and climbed up to hang on the Promethean board. If that were not enough, she got into Mrs. Fowler's breakfast muffin and made a mess on her table. That Belle! We look forward to her antics over the next two weeks she is visiting us. If you have an elf at home, please send us a photo via my email address. Thanks! We are learning about tally marks and how they are used to count by 5's. It is still a little hard for us! Here is a photo of Belle! She is really cute. What a HUGE difference in the children's reading since the beginning of the year! They are REALLY reading and not 'pretending' to (but that pretending is part of the process of reading). Wow! Talk about a FEAST! That is exactly what we had in D-116 at Old Pointe Elementary today! Look at the spread of food we had for our Friendship Meal! And this is not even everything ... more food came in after Mr. Isaiah took this picture! We had so much food that the children were actually SILENT for twenty minutes while they gobbled down all the delights! Everyone left the table happy and full! Thanks to all the parents who came, who helped serve, who helped clean up, and fixed all this awesome food! Yum. Happy, Happy Thanksgiving. Like I told the children today, I am truly thankful for my wonderful class, and thankful for our wonderful parents! See you all in December!! Here are some photos of our sweeties.
The children are excited about our "Friendship Meal" tomorrow. I really appreciate all of the parents for the amazing response we have had to our request for food. I have overheard several of the children talking to one another about the food you are sending in. This week our centers are all based on making some fun, traditional school crafts. The children were busy as bees working away today. It was not until much later in our morning before one of the children thought about going into one of the play centers. Tune in tomorrow for pictures of the children at our Friendship Meal! We have had a fun Friday, as usual. 😄 After lunch we met with our fifth grade reading buddies. They helped us practice reading all the books in our reading tubs. Then we showed them our dance moves as we sang and danced to Harry Kindergarten's 'Turkey Time' song on youTube. If you want to hear an annoying song that gets stuck in your head but is beloved by all five years olds, this song is it. We also had our last session of Pointe Time for round one. Our second choice club begins in December. Here are photos of some of our friends in their clubs today... Happy Friday. Enjoy your weekend! Friday was our Traditional Thanksgiving meal served by our wonderful cafeteria. They served all kinds of good, southern favorites. Many of our friends had family come to visit. Here are their happy faces. My apologies to John's family! I neglected to take your picture but we were happy you came for lunch! One of the absolute BEST ways to ensure your child becomes a good reader is to encourage them in writing stories. Every day we have Writing Workshop where the children are able to draw and write stories. Some of the children have taken to this easily. For others, they are still hesitant to expend the hard work it takes and it IS HARD WORK! Please enjoy listening to Isaiah as he reads his narrative titled "Mackenzey." We are so proud of him and his great story! |
