We are so happy to welcome Bre'Errica to our class and Old Pointe Elementary. She has quickly adjusted to our class and routines. Bre'Errica moved here last week, just in time to celebrate St. Patrick's day with us!! Now we have 23 students!!
Dominick joined our class a week ago Wednesday. We are happy, happy, happy to have another boy join our class! The children arrived at school this morning with snowflakes falling and our playground blacktop completely covered in snow. We KNEW something was up with Mr. Weather! Since the snow continued to fall, we had to go outside and investigate just as any good scientist should. At first the snow was not falling very much. The flakes were small and there were not many falling. We decided this was what weathermen call a "light" snow. We went out again at 11:30, right before dismissal. See the difference in the snowfall? This time it was a lot easier to use our senses to explore! Enjoy the snow! Stay warm and safe. No school tomorrow. Wow, were the children excited about the 100th day of school. Many of the children arrived dressed up as a 100 year-old person. The children looked adorable!!!! We read books about 100 and wrote 100 words on a chart (that was easy for us!). We jumped for 100 seconds, licked a lollipop 100 times, tallied to 100 and wrote our names as many times as we could in 100 seconds. We counted by 1's, 5's, and 10's to 100 over and over again. We still have more fun 100 things to do in the days to come! The children especially enjoyed eating their 100 item snack. Thank you parents for sending in the requested items to create our snack. It was really yummy! We had an assembly Monday to jump start our fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The speaker was a 15 year-old cancer survivor, diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of 4. It is wonderful to see that miracles can happen! The speaker is one of the children featured on this poster: Your child should have brought home a small, folded, cardboard collection box. We are asking the children to collect spare change in it from now through Feb. 20. The class raising the most money during this time will win a free lunch from Olive Garden. Our fifth grade reading buddies came to see us today. It was awesome! They brought their iPads and taught us more about using the app educreations. We learned so much and had a lot of fun. In fact, we had so much fun that we did not miss going out for recess (well, almost!) Here we are working with a buddy: Thanks to Ms. Miller and her amazing class for bringing their iPads to share with us! Parents, please be aware a stomach bug is making its way through the grade levels at our school. Mrs. Fowler and I are disinfecting tables frequently as well as reminding the children about hand washing and using hand sanitizer. If your child complains of a stomach ache and is not eating much, please give thought to whether this is normal behavior for them before sending them on to school that day. Thanks! When the thermometer dips below 40 degrees we do not go outside for recess. Needless to say, the children, Mrs. Fowler and I all hope for moderate temps during the Winter months. (However, truth be told we ALL love a good snow day). If you remember from your elementary school years, days without outside recess are PURE TORTURE!! So we did go out today for less than ten minutes to run and yell and work out those wiggles. For the remainder of our recess time, we did the YouTube Wii Just Dance Kids videos. The children are soooo cute when they do these videos. I think they really think they are earning a score because they are so intense!! Watch this video and see what I mean! If measured in smiles, Snow Day was a HUGE success! We had fun all day long. Here are scenes from our day. We started our morning by creating live snowmen... Then we started in on the snow play. We had forts and snowball fights. We made Insta-Snow outside. We all agree it is pretty cool stuff We ice skated on our area rug with the help of paper plates in front of a roaring fire (thanks to YouTube). All of our centers revolved around snow and Winter today ... Even the app on our iPads. We made adorable snow globes thanks to Mrs. Armstrong. We enjoyed making a marshmallow snowman to enjoy with hot cocoa, cheese snowballs and snow ice cream. We really enjoyed our snugly blankets while we read books today and while watching the movie "The Snowman." It was a great day! We hope everyone has an amazing Christmas and a Happy New Year! More photos of our afternoon! Here are a few finished products. This was too fun! Thank you parents for sending items in for our houses and a special thanks to Jodi Wooten, Mason's mommy, and Chris Armstrong, Christian's dad, for helping me assemble the houses yesterday. AND thanks to the Armstrongs for coming today to help with decorating our houses. |
